University of Wolverhampton achieves highest-ever Guardian University Guide ranking

The University of Wolverhampton has achieved its highest-ever position in the Guardian University Guide, rising 41 places to 67th in the 2027 rankings.

The result makes the University one of the UK's top three highest climbers and reflects significant progress across key measures including student satisfaction, teaching quality, continuation and graduate outcomes.

Alongside the overall rise in the league table, a number of subject areas achieved outstanding results. Education, Business and Management and Graphic Design were all ranked fifth nationally, while Criminology was ranked 10th. Psychology was ranked 14th and Health Professions 15th, meaning six subject areas are now positioned within the UK's top 15.

Professor Ebrahim Adia, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton, said: "Being recognised as one of the UK's top three highest climbers and achieving our highest-ever position in the Guardian University Guide is a significant milestone for the University.

This result reflects the hard work and dedication of colleagues across the institution, the success of our students and graduates, and our continued commitment to delivering excellent outcomes. It is further evidence of the positive momentum we are building and the progress being made across the University as we continue to strengthen our teaching, support our students and create opportunities through education, research and innovation."

The latest Guardian ranking adds to a year of success for the University. During the past 12 months, the University attained a prestigious QS Five-Star ("Excellent") rating in the internationally recognised QS Stars framework; secured third place in the 2025 English Social Mobility Index; ranked ninth in the UK for overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey (NSS), placing in the top 10% of institutions for Teaching, Learning Opportunities and Assessment; ranked 31st in the UK for graduate employability, career support and opportunities; and was ranked 51st out of 128 institutions in the Daily Mail University Guide. The University was also voted by students as one of the UK's top 10 universities, and the number one university in the West Midlands, in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards, while its apprenticeship provision was rated 'Strong' by Ofsted across all five assessment areas.
