The following Student Update was communicated to students by email on Tuesday 20 February 2024.

Dear students,

Following the overnight disruption to our IT services, staff have been working hard throughout the day to get our initial critical services back up and running. As we roll out recovery, work has focused primarily on Canvas and the University website which are now both available.

Teaching and Learning

Plans are being put in place to ensure that teaching is delivered, where possible, online tomorrow (Wednesday 21 February) and efforts will be made to accommodate practical learning activity on Campus. You will be contacted on Canvas to let you know about your teaching arrangements for tomorrow and the rest of the week so please check it this evening. You can find further information on the website student intranet news pages and through regular notifications on MyWLV app.

Assessments

Assessment deadlines will be extended as a result of the disruption to give you additional time to prepare for exams and submit work. Further updates will follow.

On Campus

Wi-Fi is not yet available across all campuses so please bear this in my mind if you’re coming into the University. There will be a reduced catering service on offer and, with online payment systems being affected, it will be a cash-only service.

Libraries will be open between 8.30am and 7.00pm and buses will be operating to a reduced timetable. More information will be available on the Transport Teams channel.

Members of the ASK team will be available across all campuses for any additional support and queries you might have over the next few days.

The Students’ Union will be open as normal, and they have a series of events and activities planned including free cookery workshops, an SU Got Talent event, bingo and a new food menu at Luna Lounge. The SU’s advice centre is open as well as their social space, The Den, Welcome Desk and Student Voice staff are also on site to support students.

Deli Moon will be open in the morning for hot and cold drinks and meals and Luna Lounge bar will be open at City Campus on Thursday 22 February.

Please could you ensure you wear your University ID cards at all times whilst on campus so you can access facilities. And please be aware that lifts are currently not available.

Rolling out Recovery

IT staff will be continuing work behind the scenes on recovering other affected systems and, once timescales have been identified, further details will be communicated.

Thank You

A big thank you goes out to you all for your patience and understanding during this period of disruption.

We will keep you updated as the recovery work progresses.
