Our security team has been working with Wolverhampton Business Improvement District (BID) to train our security staff on the national Ask for Angela campaign.

The University’s security team, managed by Chris Robinson and Deputy Security Operations Manager, Paul Chaddock, have been working hard behind the scenes to prepare for the launch of the national initiative of the ‘Ask for Angela’ campaign. Both Chris and Paul sit on the panel for Business Improvement District (BID) and were approached to include the Ask for Angela initiative within the University.

The Ask for Angela initiative is described by our University lead on this project, Paul Chaddock, as “a simple premise with recognisable benefits”. The initiative works by utilising a universally understandable trigger phrase of Ask for Angela which allows someone who is feeling threatened to raise awareness and ask for support in a covert way. Paul added that this initiative “complements existing University existing procedures and policies."

Paul and the team have been working hard to ensure that all front-line staff are aware of the Ask for Angela initiative and support the implementation of this across the University to “help ensure the safety and security of people on-site across all University campuses.” The University security team will all be able to respond accordingly to any Ask for Angela requests which can vary from talking to someone to supporting them with a safe taxi home from a situation.

This initiative allows both University staff and students to approach someone when they need support or feel unsafe in a subtle, simple way and be reassured that they will be appropriately supported to a safe location with a response from our security team.
