Your IT and Digital essentials

Whether you’re a student or staff member, we all share the same digital university. Here’s your quick guide to the must-have tools and essential tech.

Your IT Account

  • Login Details: Staff and students get a User ID and University email (@wlv.ac.uk). Use either with your password to access most systems.
Exception: For e:Vision, use your ID number + password.
  • Students: You’ll have created your password during enrolment.
  • Update Your Password:
Change it anytime, on any device, using this portal.
You’ll need your email address, current password, and MFA phone.
  • Locked Out? Reset your password yourself using the Microsoft portal, MFA required.
  • Account Duration: Your IT account stays active for the entire time you’re at the University.

MFA: Extra security for your account

Multifactor authentication (MFA) protects your University accounts (email, Teams, Canvas, myWLV) even if your password is stolen.

  • Setup: Use the Authenticator app or phone verification. You’ll need your mobile phone.
  • After setup, MFA works in the background—only appearing if you sign in from a new device or location.
  • Tip: Always keep your MFA phone with you. Learn more: wlv.ac.uk/its/essentials/mfa
