An event to celebrate 100 years of women working within legal profession is to be hosted by the University of Wolverhampton.

The First 100 Years Colloquium will take place at the University's Chancellor's Hall on Thursday, 10 October 2019.

The theme will be celebrating women in law and criminal justice, and will feature renowned experts in the legal field.

Speakers at the event from 1pm - 4pm will include Suzanne Llewellyn, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for the West Midlands, and Carl Hardwick, Governor of HMP Drake Hall in Eccleshall, Staffordshire.

Also taking part in the discussion will be Frances Crook, Chief Executive of the Howard League for Penal Reform, and Dr Karlie Stonard, Senior Lecturer in Criminology, University of Wolverhampton.

Organiser Dr Metka Potocnik Lecturer in Law at the University, said: "It has been 100 years since the 1919 Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act, which allowed women in the UK to enter the legal profession (to qualify as barristers or solicitors). This themed conversation will enable us to celebrate the centenary and discuss some of the challenges and successes facing those working in the legal profession and criminal justice system today."
