International scholarship ceremony welcomes outstanding students

The University of Wolverhampton held an International Scholarship Ceremony recently to officially welcome international students who are studying in Wolverhampton.

Nine students from across the University’s three Faculties attended the event which was held in the Chancellor’s Hall at the University’s City Campus in Wolverhampton, joining academics, colleagues from the Global Opportunities Office and the Student’s Union.

Sergine Monple, Director of Global Opportunities, said: ”We were delighted to welcome some of our international students to this event and celebrate their successes. For our students joining us this year, the last few months before travelling to the UK were spent researching universities, taking exams, writing personal statements, and going through a tough application process. All that process has now concluded and the students are now ready to begin. Their arrival at the University marks a new chapter in the story of their life and we would like to congratulate them all on their successful applications.”

Sochima Barbara Abudei, from Nigeria and studying for a Master’s degree in Advanced Technology Management, said: “Applying for this scholarship was a very rigorous but rewarding experience. I'm excited that I got to experience a new culture when studying in the UK that has amazing opportunities and particularly the University of Wolverhampton. An amazing engineering department.

“It has been an amazing experience. At first I must say I was scared because I left my country that I had been in for over 20 years and I moved to a new country with a new culture. But the support from the University and students have been amazing, from application down to moving in to my accommodation. I’m just amazed and am looking forward to more opportunities.  Also, I love fish and chips!”
