Students' Union organises free food parcel offering for students over Christmas

The University of Wolverhampton Students’ Union has teamed up with the Initiatives for Regional and International Development (IRiD) and the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the Soughtout Assembly to support students over the Christmas break with free food parcels.

The food parcels will contain a variety of dry foods such as pasta, noodles, spaghetti, tomato sauce, cornflakes, rice, tea bags and sugar and aim to provide students with vital supplies during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ayo Falana, Students’ Union President, said: “The Students’ Union is absolutely committed to supporting our students during this difficult time. This collaboration is an amazing example of different organisations coming together to achieve a common goal- supporting our student communities.”  

Dr Opeolu Ojo, a Senior Lecturer in Biotechnology at the University and a Trustee of the Initiatives for Regional and International Development and the Senior Pastor at RCCG, The Soughtout Assembly, said: “Our organisation is aware of the impact that Covid-19 is having on many people and how the pandemic is increasing the burden of hardship.

“We recognise how difficult it is to be away from home, particularly during the pandemic, and we are delighted that we have been able to provide support to students who are such an integral part of the community.” 

Food parcels will be delivered to Wolverhampton-based students throughout December as part of the joint University and Students’ Union’s ‘Light the Way’ campaign which brings together a package of support for students over the Christmas break including online events, access to health and wellbeing services and support for studying.
