Accommodation Fees

Once you have been made an offer of accommodation and you accept your licence agreement, you will be required to make an advanced rent payment of £500. This works a little like a deposit and will be deducted from your final instalment of accommodation fees. This is all done as one process.

Please Note: If you pay the £500 via bank transfer you will not be able to accept your licence agreement until we have received payment which can take up to 5 working days to clear.

Here is all the legal information that you will need to know about your £500 advanced rent payment, it might seem a bit lengthy but have a read through as you don’t want to find yourself in a sticky situation…

In conjunction with the terms of the Accommodation Licence Agreement, deductions can be taken from the advanced rent payment.

This is with reference to clauses;

7.3          This Licence Agreement may be terminated by You if:

7.6          If You are terminating because You are withdrawing / taking a leave of absence or transferring courses, then written confirmation of this from the appropriate school must be provided to Accommodation Hub Office before they can consider any refund or cancellation of payment obligations.

7.7          In all cases, where You wish to exercise Your right to terminate, You acknowledge that, save where You are terminating for reasons specified in clause 7.3(a) and (b), You will continue to be liable for the full Licence Fee unless the University or You are/are able to find a replacement person to take on the outstanding liability for these amounts.

7.8          You will remain responsible for complying with this Agreement until terminated.

With the exception of visa refusals or you not obtaining a place on a course at the University of Wolverhampton you will not receive a full refund of your Licence Fee. (Written confirmation of this refusal will be required from UCAS or the University of Wolverhampton.)

If you are applying to live within University Accommodation and you will not be 18 when you arrive at Uni, there’s a couple of things you need to do to make sure you get a place in halls:

Firstly have a read through the Under 18s Policy

Then complete the Under 18 application information pack (Word doc 40k) before your accommodation can be secured.

The guarantor form covers the financial side of things and will need to be completed by a parent/guardian.

The guarantor form/required documents will need to be returned to your Local Accommodation Hub asap so we can process your application, get all the admin side sorted and you can get set for life at uni.

If you are under 18 you automatically get allocated En-suite accommodation – you might see this as a super bonus! But if you would prefer standard to save some cash you can apply to move rooms once you’ve turned 18.

If you have any queries or questions please feel free to get in touch with the Hub Manager at you chosen Accommodation Hub.

The University of Wolverhampton Accommodation pride ourselves on offering students an All Bills Included package with their Accommodation. No worrying about any hidden extras as all of the facilities below are included in the price of your rent. Top tips for parents, carers and guardians of university students

(FAQs, essential advice and checklist)

Leaving home for university is a big step and, as the new term approaches, both students and their parents, carers, or guardians may experience a mixture of emotions. With this in mind, we’ve put together some helpful tips and suggestions on how you can support your student while they’re living away from home.

Parents, Carers and Guardians Checklist
  • Once your student has received and accepted an offer (conditional or unconditional) and made the University of Wolverhampton their firm choice, make sure they apply for accommodation via e:Vision
  • Take a look at our Where Can I Live?  webpages to explore the different accommodation options available and their costs.
  • When completing a preference form, ensure it is filled in correctly, listing preferred accommodation choices in order from 1–3.
  • Make sure your student accepts their Accommodation Licence Agreement and pays the advance rent payment online. The link will be sent via email, so encourage them to check their inbox regularly. Please note: if this isn’t completed within 5 days, the offer may expire and they will need to reapply.
  • Decide on the most suitable payment method for accommodation fees by visiting our How to Pay webpages.
  • Visit our online shop to see if you’d like to purchase any items in advance—these can be placed in the room ready for your student’s arrival.

Stay positive and supportive

It’s important to keep a positive outlook during this time of change. Your student may be feeling anxious about starting a new chapter, so offering reassurance can make a big difference. Let them know it’s completely normal to feel nervous, and remind them that plenty of support is available from the University once they arrive.

Encourage independence

As September approaches, encourage your student to become more independent. Supporting them to build confidence and take initiative will help them prepare for managing their own responsibilities and decisions.

Please also note that the Accommodation Licence Agreement is a legally binding contract between the student and the Accommodation Hub. Due to data protection regulations, and as students are legally considered adults, we are only able to discuss contractual or personal matters directly with them. If you need to speak on their behalf, we will require their written consent.

Prepare them for independent living

Help your student get ready for life away from home by making sure they feel confident with everyday tasks like doing their laundry, budgeting for food shopping, and cooking a few simple meals. You can also explore our communal living webpages for more helpful advice.

If your student requires any additional support for medical or personal reasons, encourage them to contact the Accommodation Hub and Student Support and Wellbeing as early as possible to discuss their needs.

Keeping in touch

Leaving home is a big step, and many students may feel homesick at times. Reassure them that you’re there for them and that they can reach out whenever they need support. Encourage them to give it time and remind them they’re not alone in how they’re feeling. It’s also a good idea to suggest they make use of the support services available at the University, including the Accommodation Hub, which offers advice and support to residents.

At the same time, some students fully embrace university life and may not be in touch as often as you’d like. Try keeping in contact through messages, email, or social media—these can often be easier ways to stay connected.

Don’t rush decisions

If you’re already thinking about where your student will live after their first year, there’s no need to rush. Many students choose to stay in University accommodation beyond their first year. They can reapply at any time by visiting their Accommodation Hub, including applying as part of a friendship group if they wish to continue living with friends.
