Accreditation by leading UK body secured for science courses

The University of Wolverhampton has been successful in securing accreditation for courses from a leading professional UK body.
Selected undergraduate degree courses on offer in the University’s Schools of Science and Pharmacy have secured accreditation by the Royal Society of Biology.
The Royal Society of Biology is the leading professional body for the biological sciences in the United Kingdom. The Society represents over 17,500 biologists from all areas of the life sciences, as well as almost 100 organisations which make up the diverse landscape of biology in the UK and overseas. The Royal Society of Biology offers members unique opportunities to engage with the life sciences and share their passion for biology.
The courses include Animal Behaviour and Wildlife Conservation, Biological Science, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Biotechnology, Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Science.
Accreditation was secured following an independent and rigorous assessment. Accredited degree programmes contain a solid academic foundation in biological knowledge and key skills, and prepare graduates to address the needs of employers.
The accreditation criteria require evidence that graduates from accredited programmes meet defined sets of learning outcomes, including subject knowledge, technical ability and transferrable skills.
Georgina Manning, Head of Department of Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science (and Physics) at the University, said: “This is a great achievement and means that our students can be confident that our courses provide them with the relevant knowledge and skills to support them in their future careers. It also highlights the enthusiasm and dedication of the academic and technical teams involved in delivering these courses to our students.”
Final Year Students from Accredited programmes will receive one year of free membership of the Royal Society of Biology. This will open up networks at a crucial time when applying for jobs.
