University builds on success with accreditation for degree courses

The University of Wolverhampton has secured accreditation for its range of Built Environment and Architecture degree courses from two leading professional bodies.

The Built Environment and Architecture Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree courses are taught at the University’s £120 million brownfield regeneration project, Springfield Campus, Wolverhampton, in the recently opened School of Architecture and Built Environment.

The courses have been accredited for the next five years by the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) and by the Royal Institution of British Architects (RIBA).

Dr Paul Hampton, Interim Head of the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded accreditation for our Built Environment and Architecture degree courses for the next five years by these world-leading professional bodies.

“Our Construction Super Campus at Springfield is heralding the dawn of a new era in construction and we work closely with industry to ensure that our courses reflect real world learning, ensuring that graduates are equipped with relevant and up-to-date skills when they enter the workplace.

“Our pathways of learning, which include Degree Apprenticeships, offer students opportunities to become practitioners in the global community.

“The Visit Team were impressed by the new facilities on offer for students at Springfield citing that the School had set the highest benchmark for other universities to follow.”

The new School of Architecture and Built Environment offers specialist teaching and social learning spaces, design studios, specialist labs, multi-disciplinary workshops, lecture theatre, cafe, offices, meeting rooms, ICT rooms and a top floor super studio with double height ceilings.

It provides space for nearly 1,100 existing students and 65 staff, with the number of students projected to grow over time to 1,600.

The School specialises in supporting skills in architecture, construction, civil engineering, building control, building services, facilities management, quantity surveying, planning, construction management, housing and commercial.

The University offers a Higher National Diploma (HND) for Construction and the Built Environment, Master’s degrees in Construction Project Management, Digital Quantity Surveying and Programme and Project Management and degrees in Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying and Architectural Design Technology.
