The University has opened registration for its 2026 Computational Literary Studies (CLS) Training School on 6–7 February 2026. The event is designed to attract students, academics, and digital humanities enthusiasts from across the UK and beyond.

Organised by CLSUK, the UK’s first coordinated network for computational literary studies, the Training School promotes innovative, ethical approaches to digital humanities. Last year’s event drew over 30 participants from the UK and Europe, and this year promises an even stronger programme.

The Training School’s organiser, Professor of English Literature at the University of Wolverhampton Sebastian Groes, said: ‘We’re delighted to deliver this important upskilling workshop for scholars interested in boosting their digital humanities skills.

“European CLS scholars have offered transformative insights into literature, for example by revealing that Italian writer ‘Elena Ferrante’ is not a person but a virtual figurehead behind which hides a highly successful international author whose name is kept hidden by ‘her’ publishers. We hope to create a similar revolution in a UK context.”

Headline speakers include:

  • Professor Karina van Dalen-Oskam (Huygens Institute, Netherlands)
  • Dr Lamyk Bekius (University of Antwerp, Belgium)
  • Martin Wynne (University of Oxford)
  • Professor Maciej Eder (Jagiellonian University, Poland), co-author of the widely used R stylometry software

Participants will explore cutting-edge methods in text mining, stylometry, and computational analysis, gaining insights into how technology intersects with literature, culture, and bias. The event builds on the University’s AHRC-funded Novel Perceptions project and its collaboration with the BBC on Novels That Shaped Our World.
