University confers prestigious Honorary Doctorate in Laws on leading Crown Prosecutor Sean Kyne
The University of Wolverhampton is delighted to announce that Sean Kyne, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for the West Midlands region, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Law in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the legal profession and his longstanding support of the University.
Originally from the North-East, Sean graduated from the University of Wolverhampton in 1997 with a Law Degree. He has since built an outstanding career in criminal justice, working initially in the private legal sector before joining the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Over the years, Sean has risen through the ranks to his current senior leadership role, where he plays a pivotal part in delivering justice across the West Midlands.
Beyond his professional achievements, Sean has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to education and community engagement. He has mentored colleagues within the CPS and worked closely with the University in numerous capacities. His contributions include serving as an inaugural member of the Alumni Advisory Board, delivering guest lectures and workshops for Law School students, acting as a mentor, and presenting awards at alumni events. His dedication was recognised when he was named UK Volunteer of the Year at a previous Alumni Awards ceremony.
Sean’s career journey and volunteer support represent the gold standard of alumni engagement, inspiring current and future students while strengthening the University’s ties to the legal profession.
Sean commented: “I am absolutely delighted and humbled to have been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Law by the University. I have incredibly fond memories of my time as a student in Wolverhampton, and I consider it an honour to be able to give back to an educational establishment that played such a key role in shaping my legal career.’’
“It has always been personally important to me that I play my part in helping the students understand that whatever their aspirations may be, they are achievable. Helping the next generation of lawyers pursue their own career path is something which I find extremely rewarding.”
The University looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Sean as an advocate, educator, and industry link, helping to create opportunities for students and enhance the University’s impact in the legal sector.
After graduation, graduates become members of the Alumni Association and are encouraged to keep in touch, to take advantage of a wide range of benefits and support on offer, including a discount for postgraduate study.
