Arena Theatre hosts placements for students and graduates of the University

The Arena Theatre at the University has welcomed students and University alumni on placements for their Dark Tales in Winter in-house show.

As part of its commitment to nurturing the next generation of creatives and artists, the Arena Theatre has welcomed Journalism students and graduates of Fine Art and the Performing Arts for placement opportunities in stage management, set design, marketing and PR.

Both Oluwasen Balogun and Lara Davis, who are current Journalism students, have been attending rehearsals over the past fortnight to interview cast members and writers to conduct research for pieces on why Victorian ghost stories are such a staple for Christmas time.

Meanwhile, Zoe Moreton – a Fine Art graduate of the University – has brought her expertise in detailing several props involved in the performance. Graduate Victoria Tew has stage managed the piece, being involved in the technical rehearsals throughout, and contributed with skills in the creation of projection and projection mapping.

Neil Reading, Artistic Director of the Arena, said: “Bringing through the next generation of creatives is at the heart of our mission at the Arena Theatre. It has been fantastic to welcome students and graduates of the University into the creative process, and they have been a real asset to the production. We are keen to offer further student placement opportunities in the future across the work we do here at the Arena.”

Dark Tales in Winter shows at the Arena Theatre from Wednesday 13 December to Friday 15 December. Tickets are £12 and can be booked on the venue’s What’s On page.
