Culture Wars

This workshop is an engaging and exciting experience for students as they delve into the fascinating world of microorganisms and the diseases they cause. They will understand how diseases are transmitted and the various methods that can be used to prevent or treat them. This session is an opportunity for students to develop their confidence and presentation skills while having fun exploring the world of microbiology. This session will require students to have access/permission to use their personal electronic devices for research or school laptops/tablets.

 

 A maximum of 3 sessions can be provided in one day. 

This session links in with the national curriculum in the following ways

  • Understand the differences and role of bacteria, viruses and fungi as pathogens in animals and plants.
  • Understand the body defences against pathogens and the role of the immune system against disease.
  • Understand how to reduce and prevent the spread of infectious diseases in animals and plants.
  • Develop knowledge and experience communicating the scientific rationale for investigations, including the methods used, the findings and reasoned conclusions, using paper-based and electronic reports and presentations.

  • Linking curriculum learning to careers.
  • Encounters with Further and Higher Education.
