Shropshire is a distinctly rural county offering an abundance of ways for you to get outside and enjoy nature. Right on your doorstep is Telford Town Park, which offers a variety of cycling and walking routes as well as outdoor activities such as adventure golf and the SkyReach ropes course. You will also find a series of natural landmarks within easy reach of Telford such as The Wrekin, The Ercall and Apley Woods.

Just behind Southwater One is Telford Town Park, a sprawling public park featuring green spaces, cycling routes, walking trails, picnic spots, and the ‘Place in the Park’ food kiosk which sells everything from coffee and ice creams to milkshakes.

Feeling up for an activity? Then we recommend checking out Adventure/Disc Mini Golf, Sky Reach High Ropes Course, or the Exotic Zoo – all located in the perimeters of the park.

In addition, there is also a calendar of exciting park events that happen throughout the year, including the annual Telford Balloon Fiesta.

One of Shropshire’s top destinations, Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World is a great place to visit to see a range of exotic animals, a realistic dinosaur park with life-sized dinosaurs or to check out the ‘Action Barn’ complete with full-sized climbing wall. You can even enjoy a meerkat and lemur experience if getting up close to animals is your thing!

Escape the hustle and bustle of town and head for the tranquillity of Apley Woods Nature Reserve. Enjoy over 56 acres of meadows, pools, trees and winding footpaths where you’ll see woodland art and sculptures, as well as the historic Apley Castle built in 1270.

Ready for a challenge? Hop on the train to Wellington (just one stop from Telford) and take a hike up The Wrekin, an iconic hill that serves as one of Shropshire’s most famous natural landmarks. As well as hiking, there’s also a cycle route that skirts the edges of the Wrekin, and don’t forget to check out Wrekin Forest.

Enjoy a peaceful stroll among 500 million years of history in Ercall Wood Nature Reserve, situated just outside Telford town centre. As well as beautiful woodland walks and the chance for some inspect spotting, the woods are of significant geological interest with a range of quarries and rock formations to see – all within the confines of the woods.
