The Pontoon and Dock Company Case Study

Established in 2009, The Pontoon and Dock Company are a highly successful business installing pontoons into the construction industry and many others and as an innovative company they are always searching for ways to improve and develop. The Pontoon and Dock Company are a forward thinking family company based in Shropshire and Derbyshire and in 2014 were awarded Shropshire Star Small Business of the Year, prompting them to look to the future and explore how to develop further.

The Challenge

Digital media was identified as an area which should be improved upon through online channels, marketing at events and online sales. Following discussions with the University of Wolverhampton it was decided that a graduate placement would be a suitable avenue to find the skills and ideas necessary to make these changes.

The Solution

Working with a dedicated account manager at the University of Wolverhampton, suitable key factors of the placement were drawn up and advertised to graduates with applicable skills across the region. The process is looked after by the account manager ensuring that interview shortlisting can be carried out with the employer from a batch of suitable applications and interviewing assistance is on hand.

The Result

Rachel Morris successfully secured the graduate placement and is instantly providing a breath of fresh air to the office, discussing innovative ideas and demonstrating proactivity in exploring avenues which had either been previously dismissed or not thought of. Ebay and online sales was an area which had always been neglected so Rachel was tasked with looking into improvements; Rachel revolutionised the internet sales and Ebay account creating an efficient sales avenue.

Rachel has completed her placement with The Pontoon and Dock Company and has been taken on in a permanent role and promoted to Head of Marketing.

“Rachel has been a real asset to the company, bringing in new and exciting ideas and skills while making a big difference to our bottom line.  I hope she continues to have a long and fulfilling career with us”.
