Professor interviews Stephen Fry for research project

Professor Sebastian Groes from the University of Wolverhampton's School of Humanities interviewed the comedian, writer and actor Stephen Fry recently, well-known narrator of Harry Potter, for the Big Bookshare impact project.

Groes and his Bookshare team met Fry in Soho to talk about his own spell in prison when he was in his teens. Fry also talked about his writing practices and gave writing tips. They talked about Fry’s bestselling novel HEROES, a retelling of classical Greek myths.

Professor Groes said: "The interview had to be postponed after Fry suffered a major fall that saw him hospitalised. He currently walks with a cane, though his spirit is positive and enthusiastic as ever. It was a real privilege to engage with him and it's amazing that he's taking part in our pilot project."

The Big Bookshare is an Arts Council funded pilot project that works with four prisons in Kent. In two prisons, the Big Bookshare will distribute 300 copies of Fry’s HEROES.

Master's degree in English Literature student, Megan Powell, who is about to embark on her PhD investigating the Beatles’ surreal lyrics with Groes, said on X: “I'm proud to be a University of Wolverhampton student!”
